In Year 2 our learning journey will start in the days of the Victorians where the children will enjoy a trip to Preston Manor in Brighton to explore the lives of working children. Next we will explore islands and look at what they are and how they are formed. In the spring term we learn about the frozen landscapes of the Arctic and the Antarctic. We will look at a range of animals which survive in these freezing climates and their habitats, life cycles and food chains.
We will also make links with important current human issues, such as climate change and global warming and reflect on the things we can do as responsible world citizens. In the summer term we will work hard during the SATs tests and then immerse ourselves in our final wonderful topic, World War 2. The children will be able to explore their own family histories and bring a wealth of knowledge and information about people’s lives during the Second World War.
How you can help your child at home:
Read daily with your child. Hear them read, but also read to them. Visit the library frequently!
Allow your child to handle money and count coins. This will support their basic skills of counting in 2s, 3s, 5s, and 10s. Shop for small items, add amounts together and find the difference to get change.
